Bands
The CSUSB Bands encompass a number of ensembles, including a strong classical program featuring our Symphonic Band & Chamber Winds, an award-winning Jazz Ensemble, and the Wild Bunch, CSUSB’s pep band.
Our bands perform throughout the year at department concerts, civic events, music competitions and conferences, CSUSB basketball games, and other venues.
This year, the Symphonic Band & Chamber Winds will perform in concert with guest artists such as the Presidio Brass, give premiere performances of several new works, and tour throughout the Temecula and Coachella Valleys.
On Saturday, February 20, 2010, the CSUSB Bands will hold the first annual CSUSB Brass Bash, featuring resident artists the Presidio Brass, a professional brass quintet based in San Diego. Intended for brass musicians young and old, the CSUSB Brass Bash will be a day-long event with workshops, master classes, clinics, and performances, including an evening concert featuring the Presidio Brass with the CSUSB Symphonic Band.
Our June 2010 concert will include a performance of Catfish Row, Gershwin's concert suite from Porgy & Bess, with soprano and bass vocalists from Los Angeles. The winners of our annual CSUSB Concerto/Composition Contest will also be featured.
We are also proud to host the Inland Empire Youth Wind Symphony. This performing ensemble is comprised of fifty of the most talented wind, brass, and percussion high school musicians from throughout the Inland Empire; in 2009, the group included students from seventeen different high school music programs. More information can be found by clicking here.
All of our ensembles are open to music majors and non-majors alike. If you are interested in the CSUSB Bands, please let us know – we’d love to have you playing with us!
