Cal State Symphonic Band

The Symphonic Band is the premier large instrumental ensemble at CSUSB.  Comprised of 40-50 undergraduate music and non-music majors, the Symphonic Band explores the cornerstones of the wind literature as well as the finest contemporary works for wind band.  The Symphonic Band performs with guest artists and composers, and tours throughout the Inland Empire.  Previous concerts have featured such guest artists as L.A.-based soprano Karen Hogle Brown and composer Bernard Gilmore.

This year the Symphonic Band will host the Presidio Brass, a professional brass quintet based in San Diego, at our first annual CSUSB Brass Bash, a day-long event held in the Performing Arts Recital Hall, on Saturday, February 20, 2010.  The Symphonic Band will perform Eric Ewazen's Shadowcatcher with the Presidio Brass.

The Symphonic Band will also be on tour this year, with performances in the Temecula and Coachella Valleys - both featuring the Presidio Brass.

Each year the Symphonic Band holds a student concerto and composition contest.  Winners of the 3rd Annual CSUSB Bands Concerto/Composition Competition will perform with the Symphonic Band on its June 2010 concert.
