Canadian soprano Stacey Fraser has appeared as a soloist for the San Diego Opera, the Tony Award winning La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego Dance Theater, La Jolla Symphony, South Dakota Symphony, San Bernardino Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Asia Society in New York City, Banff Centre for the Arts and Tanglewood. Performances include Miss Silverpeal in The Impresario for South Dakota Symphony, Erste Knaben in Die Zauberflöte and First Handmaiden in Turandot for San Diego Opera, Pamina in Magic Flute, Despina in Cosi fan Tutte for the San Diego Opera Ensemble, the role of the Opera Singer in Paris Commune for La Jolla Playhouse and Eve in Haydn’s Creation for La Jolla Symphony and Chorus. As an international artist of concert repertoire, she appeared as a solo artist on the 2008 Thailand Composition Festival as well as the 2007 Americké Jaro Festival in Prednasek, Czech Republic. Recent performances include a staged rendition of songs from the Unknown Kurt Weill Song Album in Zurich, Switzerland and Konstanz, Germany and a joint recital with internationally acclaimed pianist Noriko Suzuki at the Musicasa Concert Hall in Tokyo, Japan and the Tenri Cultural Institute in New York City. She recently sang the soprano role in the Stravinsky Mass with the San Bernardino Symphony under the baton of Maestro Carlo Ponti Jr.
Dr. Fraser has received critical acclaim from international papers such as The New York Times, the San Diego Union Tribune, Oltner Tagblatt of Olten, Switzerland and the Press Enterprise of the Inland Empire for her performances in both standard and contemporary repertoire. Her recent performance of Seven Songs from the Unknown Kurt Weill with dancer/choreographer Faith Jensen-Ismay was described by the San Diego Union Tribune as “marvelously edgy” and “showed delicious physicality and intelligent restraint”.
Publications include an article entitled “Confluences of Vocal Techniques in Koji Nakano’s Time Song II” as part of the book Music of Japan Today for Cambridge Scholar Press. Recordings include Webern Opus 18 on the University of California San Diego Sound Check series. Dr. Fraser will be featured in the role of Lisinga on the premiere recording of Manuel Garcia’s opera Le Cinesi on the Harmonicorde Label later this year.
She holds a Doctorate in vocal performance from University of California, San Diego, Master of Music in vocal performance from Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor of Music in voice performance from the University of Toronto. Dr. Fraser has held teaching positions at the British Columbia Conservatory of Music, the University of California, San Diego and Northern State University. Dr. Fraser is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Actors Equity Association and the American Guild of American Artists.
